How to Add Subtitles to MP4 Using Media Players

This section will show you a step-by-step guide to adding subtitles to MP4 videos using media players.

‍

Method 1: Using VLC

This step-by-step guide works for both Windows and Mac. VLC media player only allows you to add subtitle files but not edit them because it is a media player. This means you must have your subtitle file ready to embed it.

‍

Step 1: Open VLC. Head to the subtitle option in the top menu and click "add subtitle.”

‍

Step 2: Upload the subtitle file from your computer.

‍

Step 3: Your subtitle file is now added to your MP4 video. Enjoy!

Method 2: Using Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is not a video editing tool, so whatever subtitles you add cannot be edited or customized. Windows Media Player comes preinstalled on Windows computers.

Step 1: Open your MP4 Video file in the Windows media player.

‍

Step 2: Click the subtitle button on the bottom right and add subtitles to your video.

Step 3: Your subtitles are now added to your MP4 video.

Best Software and Tools to Add Subtitles to MP4

If you want to have the flexibility of customization when you add subtitles to MP4 videos, you need to use video editing tools and not media players. We’ll talk about two video editing software you can use to add subtitles to MP4 videos and their features.

‍

Using Movavi Video Converter

Movavi Video Converter is a good option if you want to use SRT subtitles. The software can also convert files into various formats, change video resolution, compress media, and more.

‍

Step 1. Start by downloading Movavi. Download the installation file, open it, and just follow the instructions on the screen to install it.

‍

Step 2. Next, upload your MP4 files by clicking Add Media and then Add Video. You can then select the right video.

‍

‍

Step 3. In the output information section, select No Subtitles. Click the Add Button and select your subtitles. If your video and SRT file have the same name and are in the same folder, the software will automatically suggest a subtitle track.

‍

‍

Click the Apply to All option if you want to add subtitles to all your chosen videos.

‍

If you want the subtitles online, you can choose Search Online once you click Add. Click search in the dialogue box, and you’ll get a list matching your file’s metadata.

‍

Step 4. Next, select MP4 in the Video tab. Check the resolution to see if you’re happy with the original size option- MP4 H.264. You can also select any other resolution that works better for you.

‍

‍

Step 5. Click the Save button to select where you want to save your video. By default, all videos are saved to the “Movavi Library” folder. Click Convert, and your SRT file will be added to the video. You can then transfer the video to your device or on a DVD.

‍

‍

Follow the same steps listed above to embed subtitles to videos in any format, such as MPEG, WMV, or MOV.

‍

‍

Method 1. Add SRT/ASS/LRC Subtitles to MP4

Step 1. Launch VideoProc Vlogger on your Mac or Windows. Upload your MP4 videos by clicking +Media Files. Next, drag the video to the track.

‍

‍

Step 2. Next, upload your LRC/ASS/SRT subtitles. Click +Add Subtitle, then drag it to the track.

‍

Method 2. Add Text Subtitles to MP4
